Following a 17-year restoration, B-29 Superfortress 44-69972 Doc had all four of its Wright R-3350 Duplex-Cyclone engines successfully run up for the first time at Wichita, Kansas on 18 September. Doc restoration program manager Jim Murphy called the test a success and said that the systems performed as expected. Murphy added that, after inspection and fine-tuning, the aircraft will be ready for FAA inspection -perhaps before the end of October - and further pre-first flight testing. It is hoped that the bomber will take to the air before the end of the year.
