The nose section from recently-scrapped Douglas DC-4 N3B56 arrived at the RAF Burtonwood Heritage Centre near Warrington, Cheshire, on 9 December. The 1945-built machine had been resident at North Weald, Essex since September 2002, when it was ferried from Arizona along with C-54 Skymaster N44914 for use in a proposed (but never produced) television film about the Berlin Airlift. Burtonwood, home to the huge 8th Air Force Base Air Depot during the war years, is an appropriate resting place for the nose section, having been used as a maintenance base for USAFC-54s employed on Berlin Airlift duties during 1948-49. RAF Burtonwood Association project manager John Cotterill says, "The intention is to make the nose section the centre piece of a display recording Burtonwood's role in the airlift. We hope to have the display completed for May 2016 when we hold our next UK reunion of returning US Burtonwood veterans."
