How good it was to see the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre drawing a sellout crowd for the resumption of its annual airshow after a year's absence, and how doubly pleasing, therefore, that the forecast rain held off until the very end of an entertaining afternoon's flying. Or, rather, flying and taxiing, for the sight of Lancaster Ⅶ NX611 and Tony Agar's Mosquito NFⅡ HJ711 moving around the former Bomber Command airfield was as stirring as ever, especially as all six Merlins powered up to a crescendo during their joint run. It was a clipped-wing Lancaster that did the honours this year, the outer sections currently being removed as part of the return-to-flight effort - or was this a Spitfire-style modification for Just Jane's current ultra-low-level role? By contrast, the Mosquito was looking more complete than it had for its debut 2019 outings, its engines now fully cowled. The sense of 'only at East Kirkby' was arguably higher than ever before.
