Spitfire MH415 debuts

The long-awaited post-restoration debut of Supermarine Spitfire IX MH415/G-AVDJ, operated by Sywell-based Air Leasing, occurred on the opening weekend of September when the fighter was flown by Pete Kynsey at the Victory Show at Cosby, Leicestershire (see page 136). A few days earlier, MH415 had returned to Duxford for the first time since the Battle of Britain filming in 1968 for a display practice with the Old Flying Machine Company's Spitfire IX MH434, in readiness for the Goodwood Revival, where Richard Grace and Steve Jones flew the pair together. Apart from their appearances in the famous movie, MH415 and MH434 share wartime operational history with No 222 (Natal) Squadron, whose markings they both carry.
