Dauntless to MAM

The fuselage of Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless BuNo 36175 arrived at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach during early March after being transferred from the National Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola, Florida. Recovered from a depth of 177ft at the bottom of Lake Michigan by A and T Recovery during 1994, restoration of the dive-bomber will be hastened by the acquisition of another SBD project from California-based Kevin Smith, who has been collecting Dauntless parts for 30 years and has provided, among other things, wings and a restored aft gun position.
