AEROPLANE meets MIKE BROOKE

Being a test pilot can open up all sorts of fascinating doors. Flying many different aircraft types becomes a fact of life - sometimes a challenge, always an experience. But, even so, chances to gain time on historic aeroplanes remain exceptional. During a long and diverse career as a British military test pilot, Mike Brooke was fortunate enough to do exactly that. For several seasons, he was a fixture on the airshow circuit, delighted to give up many summer weekends in the name of display flying. At one end of the spectrum were the Shuttleworth Collection's 'Edwardians' and First World War fighters, at the other Jet Heritage's Hunter. The opportunities were never to be passed up.
