Previously, transfer needles have had an elongated shank, divided into high and low portions. The high portion was on one side with an indentation that served as a rectangular fastening for the transfer spring. In contrast, the needle described in US Patent 6 807 831 has a body with two even and flat sides, which are joined to one another on the top and back by narrow sides. A narrow slit opens out at one of the narrow sides and extends parallel or at an acute angle to the flat sides and into the body. A substantially rectangular fastening portion of the transfer spring is retained in this slit.
