Sock can monitor physical activity

A Portuguese sock manufacturer has developed a product with integrated biometric monitoring. Fiorima SA of Braga says its sock has integrated sensors that collect data relating to the physical effort of the wearer. Different sensors monitor temperature (1), heart rate and the pressure applied by the foot (5), sending this to a processor (11) attached (10) higher up the leg. Processed data is sent (12) from signallers (13,14) to a mobile device (15) that stores and displays the information. The sensors are integrated via supports (2) in the structure of the sock and knitted-in conductive yarns (3,4,6 and 7) carry signals to the terminals (8 and 9) that connect to the processor.
