Supply agreement prompts Toray to boost carbon fibre production

Toray Industries Inc of Tokyo, Japan, has signed a long-term agreement to supply its carbon fibre prepreg (Torayca) to Boeing Co of Chicago, Illinois, USA, which will use the material for the production of its 777X aircraft. This latest agreement extends one signed by the two companies in November 2005 - for the supply of the material for the 787 Dreamliner aircraft - by more than 10 years from 2015. As a result, Toray estimates that the total value of prepreg it will supply for the 787 and 777X programmes will exceed ¥1.3 trillion (US$10.6 billion).
