Polyester fabric developed as a rival to fleece

A lightweight polyester (PES) fabric that can absorb a large amount of water, and has a soft bulky texture is now available from Teijin Frontier Co Ltd. The company from Osaka, Japan, is developing a range of end-uses for the material, focusing on sportswear, but also including industrial applications, bedding, uniforms and underwear. The heart of the development is a newly developed false-twist yarn that provides the fabric with a pile structure similar to towelling. Teijin Frontier processes this yarn with a combination of proprietary technologies (called Deltapeak) involving yarn-texturing, knitting and dyeing. As a result, the yarn is held in a warp-knitted multilayer construction, which is further stabilized by the special dyeing process.
