The suburbs around Houston, Texas and the Kennedy Space Center in Florida were brand-new, tight-knit communities, where many astronauts and their families rubbed elbows with thousands of family members of others working on the space program. While kids were kids-playing football, delivering newspapers, and going to school-being the child of an astronaut was somewhat different, though many of the astronauts' children did not really realize it at the time.
