Lost among the amendments

One-third of the transitional period between the amendment 29 version of the International Mar-itime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code) and the Amendment 30 new edition has now gone (see Cargo Systems Vol 27, No 12; Vol 28, No 1). Normally most organisations on shore and ships concerned with carrying packaged danger-ous goods would by now have obtained their new Codes and training in the new format should be well underway. This may still be partly true, but it has emerged that there are some problems that could make a smooth changeover unlikely. As with all publications of a complex technical nature, there are often corrections and users of the IMDG Code are quite used to erratas and amendments. In fact, since the 1994 printing of the Code, which incorporated amendment 2.7, there have been four erratas and two amendments (28 and 29), each changing the text.
