Redeveloping Treasure Island Naval Base

The Urban Land Institute (ULI) recently pro-vided technical assistance on the redevelopment of the former Treasure Island Naval Base located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay. The 450-acre site offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop a model mixed community based on the principles of sustainable development. The mixed-use, urban infill, brownfield development will be clustered around an inter-modal ferry terminal to prioritize walking, biking, and public transit. The redeveloped area will have 6,000 to 8,000 new residential units (30 percent of which will be offered at below-market rates), a dense mixed-use town center containing regional and neighborhood-serving retail and entertainment venues, restaurants, historic structures, up to 500 hotel rooms, a 400 slip marina, and 300 acres of parks and open space featuring a broad range of recreational facilities.
