When I began surveying full time in 1970, the surveying/mapping profession in the United States was made up nearly exclusively of white men. During my career in the survey business, one change I have noted with interest is the influx of women and minorities into our ranks. Forty years ago, I do not recall meeting even a single woman or person of color in the profession of surveying. I'm certain there must have been a few scattered across the country, although today there are many. I have worked with women and minorities as crewmembers, field employees, and office technicians.
