Aware of the fact that mechanical refrigeration continues to operate regardless of external ambient temperatures, Tesco partnered with Ultra Refrigeration Ltd to install an i-Air free-cooling system in its store in Marlborough. The system works in a very similar way to free-cooling in air conditioning systems: tempered air is supplied from a central air handling unit which is ducted directly into specially adapted display cases and cold store ceiling vents.
