In certain parts of Russia where ice boxes were not afforable in days gone by, people kept milk fresh by putting a frog in it. An old wives tale, perhaps, but AT Lebedev, a chemist at the Moscow university conducted a study which proved the existence of anti-bacterial chemicals secreted from the skin of certain frogs. This gives credence to the idea that frogs were indeed used, even if no one knew why it worked.
