The Librarian's Legal Companion for Licensing Information Resources and Services

One of the new skill sets within librarianship that is rarely taught or mentored in library school-and basically comes from experience and hard work-is the licensing of electronic resources. If one is lucky enough to have trained in this area with an adept, knowledgeable peer, it replaces years of study and workshops; however, if one walks into a job having to hit the ground running in this area, it can feel like there is no one to turn to for help. Luckily, in the digital environment, there are a few listservs and forums available for electronic resource librarians and others for whom licensing and copyright are required job duties. There are a few print resources available in this area, but who has the time to read them, especially since licensing and copyright information is not exactly a priority reading item (unless you are looking for sleeping material, as they say)?
