Embedding Librarianship in Learning Management Systems: A How-to-Do-It Manual for Librarians

Higher education institutions, whether large or small, public or private, have made huge investments in learning management systems (LMSs) as a way of delivering and managing course content and resources for their students. The growth of online learning and distance education further reinforces the importance of the LMS to faculty and students in teaching, learning, research, and overall academic success. If this is now the norm, then how can librarians participate and utilize the LMS to reinforce information literacy skills and provide reference service? More importantly, how do librarians get into this new virtual space where students and faculty interact?
