Insurers hand over £6.5bn in taxes

UK insurers handed over £6.5bn in tax revenues last year, new research shows. According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), its members paid £3.1 bn in corporation and business taxes in 2006/07 while collecting an additional £3.4bn through taxes such as PAYE, employee national insurance and insurance premium tax.
