This autumn Sir Christopher Kelly, chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, will publish his report on MPs' expenses (he has promised to do so before Christmas), and the expenses scandal circus will once again come to town. A general election on the horizon will add a little spice to the debate surrounding individuals' honesty, integrity and abuse of position that this topic raises. Since MPs' expenses hit the headlines in the Daily Telegraph, executives at the BBC have also grasped the nettle - perhaps the first of many in a long list of public sector organisations and quangos - and published details of their own expense claims. The amount paid out for holiday compensation, 'gifts', taxis, champagne and flowers caused a brief Mexican wave of protest in June. Further revelations will come as the BBC plans to publish details of the expense claims made by the next tier of management.
