ARE AUDITORS THE BEST ADVISERS?

It's probably fair to say that, back in 2002, the auditing profession developed something of a pariah status. The backlash from the Enron and WorldCom scandals led to all sorts of recommendations about the separation of audit and non-audit services and the rotation of auditors. It is somewhat ironic, of course, that firms' fees rose dramatically in the aftermath because of the implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley.
