FAIR ACCESS TO THE PROFESSION

I was taken aback recently when Angela Smith, the newly appointed minister for the third sector, suggested during a debate on social mobility and fair access to the professions that accountancy, along with journalism, had 'become less, not more, accessible over time'. As an accountancy body, we have long been committed to fostering talent and financial capability at all levels and we provide opportunities for people to enter our qualification whatever stage of academic achievement they've reached - provided of course they all jump over the same hurdles in terms of experience and examinations.
