We all know that simplicity works. But most of the time the process of simplification can be quite hard work, requiring a delicate distillation of complex information, while retaining both insight and inspiration. All too often this balance can be lost, meaning important internal communications instead become indecipherable and uninspiring documents with many words, but little to say. Simplification requires a degree of ruthlessness as well as a clear prioritisation of what needs to be said, ideally focusing on a single key message. It's often useful to think in terms of reducing your communication down to an elevator pitch, which can then be converted to a poster with an intended attention window of just a few seconds. What single sentence captures the essence of what you want to say, or what you want your audience to think, feel or do as a result?
