COMPETITION COMMISSION AUDIT PROBE MAY BE FAST TRACKED

Plans to fast track a probe into the audit market are being considered following confirmation that the Office of Fair Trading has referred the investigation to the Competition Commission. The CC is expected to announce its timetable for the investigation 'within a few weeks', having already appointed a five-strong team of lawyers and academics to lead the inquiry. It is currently considering initial views submitted by interested parties last month (November) on the scope of the investigation.
