Dame Barbara Mills, chairman of the Financial Reporting Council's Professional Oversight Board and the first female director of public prosecutions, has died after suffering a stroke.Aged 70, Mills rose to prominence in the 1980s as a prosecuting barrister involved in some of the decade's most high-profile cases, including the Guinness trial.Baroness Hogg, chairman of the FRC, said: 'We are all shocked and immensely saddened by Barbara's death. She will be greatly missed, as a respected and highly effective colleague, and a good friend.'
