FUEL FOR THOUGHT

Tony English's article about managing fuel costs (Accountancy, March, p50) says 'a company car driver can reasonably expect to achieve mpg returns of anything from the mid-20s upwards.' Why so low? I drive a Volvo and get about 55mpg. There's no excuse to accept returns of as low as mid-20s - especially in an article about managing fuel costs.
