GLOBAL HAPPINESS WITH A HEALTH WARNING

David Cameron was not trail-blazing when starting the UK Happiness Index. The OECD has been carrying out its own international work for some time and now has a multi-dimensional interactive Better Life Initiative website. Citizens can measure their country's performance against a range of criteria ranked according to their own preference. There are some warning signs, though. Happiness may not be everything. From 2006-2009, Iceland had the highest rate of positive experiences in the OECD area. It still ranks highly in terms of life satisfaction, but not quite so well for household disposable income.
