On 12 December 2012, following a consultation process that commenced in March 2012, the European Commission published its long-awaited proposals to reform council regulation (EC) No 1346/2000 on Insolvency Proceedings (the 'insolvency regulation'). Insolvency specialists everywhere in the EU had been waiting eagerly for the outcome of the review and inundated the Commission with their own suggestions and ideas. Now that the proposal is available, the question is: what has the Commission in store for practitioners and was it worth the wait?
