AFRICAN MPs MUST CHANGE TAX LAWS TO IMPROVE COMPLIANCE

African MPs have been told that instead of relying on the G20, they should appropriately legislate and collectively change their laws - in line with their developed counterparts - so that they can collect the tax that is owing to them by multinational companies. The frank message came from Pascal Saint-Aman, the OECD's director for its centre for tax policy and administration in response to a question about what sanctions the G20 would impose on multinationals engaged in aggressive tax avoidance, posed by an African delegate at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association's workshop on parliamentary action on tax transparency, tax evasion and avoidance.
