Analysis of the Trade-offs Between First-generation Biofuels and Food Production at a Regional Level Through General Equilibrium Theory for Land Use Planning

A Social Account Matrix (SAM) for Tohoku region was obtained from the information provided in the Input-Output tables for the area and also using the SAM for whole Japan (to use some of its factors for calculating values not shown in the regional table). It is found that even though the exponential rates in the increase of price activity of rice as the share of rice used for ethanol production increases are independent of the initial statuses of ethanol production, this condition determines how big this change will be-the bigger the share of r ice being already used for ethanol production, the smaller the change.
