To enhance the UV-protective property of cotton fabrics, an attempt has been made to use ZnO nanosol as a finishing agent in combination with pigment dyeing. Successful simultaneous pigment dyeing and UV-protective finishing in the presence of a pigment dyeing adhesive as a cling additive was achieved. The results showed that the ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of the finished fabrics can reach 50+ and that the finished fabrics have good washfastness durability. The particle distribution of ZnO nanosol on the fabric was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Changes in performance properties of the treated fabric were also investigated. It was found that those changes did not influence wearing performance.
