Anti-Counterfeit Textile Substrates Using Covert Taggants

The screening tests described above involved more than 630 combinations of dye, substrate, and exposure-to-light period. Results showed that the stability of the fabrics tested was not adversely affected by the presence of taggants under the experimental conditions employed. Subjecting dyed and tagged substrates to wet andrndry fabric friction using standard crockfastness test equipment did not result in the destruction or significant transfer of taggant to the adjacent substrate. Taggants were also detected on the substrate after dyed and tagged substrates were laundered using standard AATCC laundring tests representing five home launder-ings. The uniformity of all dyeings following the application of taggants was satisfactory. Moreover, taggants did not visually affect the uniformity or appearance of the dyed substrates. Variation of illumination conditions did not result in naked-eye detection of taggants under the experimental conditions used in this study.
