There has long been some confusion as to whether architect Moshe Safdie is still alive - doubts that stem from the fact that the project nearly everyone associates with him was designed more than half a century ago. Habitat 67, built for the 1967 International and Universal Expo in Montreal, Quebec, is a housing project whose astute systemic, formal and engineered sophistication gives off the impression that a seasoned architect with years of experience must have completed it. Yet its design and realisation were conceived and overseen by a precocious young architect still in his 20s, and who actually commenced the work while still just a student. But make no mistake about it - Moshe Safdie is alive and kicking.
