BackgroundAntimicrobial stewardship programs promote de-escalation: moving from broad to narrow spectrum agents and/or stopping antibiotics as more clinical data return. A standard definition of de-escalation objectively applied to electronic data could provide a means to assess stewardship improvement opportunities.
