TLS — The Laboratory System: A Networked Patient Care System and Laboratory System

摘要

This paper describes the design and development of an integrated computer-based medical record system and a clinical laboratory system. In contrast to the patient care system, the design and organization of the laboratory system is dictated by work flow and management rather than by patient orientation. Advantages of an integrated system, rather than a simply interfaced one, is in the reduction of storage requirements for the laboratory system and in the ability to view any patient data, if authorized, as if only one system existed. A common data dictionary insures integrity of the data codes and reduces the effort required to maintain the system.
