Computer Applications in Medical Care. Computer Systems in Hospitals. Pharmacy and Nutrition Systems: An Investigational Drug Monitoring System

摘要

Because of the high cost of investigational drugs, the strict legal requirements for recordkeeping, and the unavailability of a satisfactory system to meet our requirements, we designed a semi-automated investigational drug monitoring system. This paper describes the hardware and software implementation, summarizes the type of complex protocol the system can manage by a patient “walk-through” and shows sample documents, indicates time and cost savings, and makes conclusions about the utility of the system. A discussion concerning the uniqueness of the current system is followed by considerations for future development.
