Book III: Scientific and Research Applications in Medical Care: Exploratory Analysis of the Medical Record

摘要

This paper describes a system developed to explore the information contained in the medical record or other extensive data sources consisting of both structured data and of free text. The computer is used to rapidly identify clinically homogeneous groups of patients and then to scan the records including the text of progress notes, searching for the occurrence of outcomes of unexpectedly high or low frequency. A man-machine interface aids the investigator in the examination of findings. The system is currently being applied to records obtained from sites using the SCAMP clinic and medical record system.
