Bringing together Chinese and Westernmaterials,this article makes a general survey of the spread of Chinese civilization to Europe in the medieval period and the consequent influences.It mainly retrieves the westward dissemination of Chinese scientific thoughts,the introduction of Chinese agricultural and transport techniques,and the development of Chinese inventions such as papermaking and print,silk and porcelain,stirrup and gunpowder in Europe,and even the impacts of Chinese silk craftsmen and fine arts on Europe.It concludes that Europeans ingested valuable nutrition from Chinese civilization from the 11th to 14th centuries,laying the foundation for the fundamental changes with groundbreaking significance in Europe.
