Hausa is one of the most important African native languages. It is taught at universities in Africa and around the world. This language is most commonly spoken in Nigeria, and is also widely used outside. Radio stations like BBC, RFI, and VOA broadcast in Hausa. As early as 1963, China Radio International started broadcasting in Hausa. Dr. Sun Xiaomeng’s study on Hausa is, in one sense, of practical significance for cultural exchanges between China and Africa. More than that, in academic studies, the relationship between Hausa and power attracts considerable attention from scholars interested in African politics, especially Nigerian studies. The reason is clear: besides being widely used in West Africa in general and Northern Nigerians in particular, Hausa is also closely connected to Islam, ethnicity, identity, power and politics, both in the past and at present.
