It is important to understand that China is in an asymmetrical position in coping with the trade frictions.Although China can impose retaliatory tariffs on some U.S.mass products,it is imperative for China,as a major exporting country,to safeguard the multilateral free trade rules of WTO and push the US back to the negotiating table.China should see it as an escalation of trade frictions instead of plunging into a“trade war,”because it is in the common interest of both sides to restart negotiation and cooperation.
