To explore a new method for treatment of advanced pancreatic carcinoma (APC).Methods Twenty-nine patiens with APC (12 of them were with liver metastasis at the same time) were randomized into 2 groups. The 11 patients in group A received bilio-enterostomy and/or gastroenterostomy in combination with systemic chemotherapy after operation. The 18 patients in group B underwent bilio-enterostomy and/or gastroenterostomy in combination with peripancreatic arterial ligation and arterial infusion regional chemotherapy. The palliation of clinical symptoms, the changes of carcinoma size were determined by BUS and CT.Survival time and serum CEA level were determined and compared between the 2 groups. Results The symptoms were alleviated apparently in most cases and tumor size significantly decreased in group B.The response rate was 67.7 and 18.2% in group B and group A,respectively (P0.05).Conclusion Peripancreatic arterial ligation in combination with arterial infusion regional chemotherapy is effective in fighting against both pancreatic carcinoma and liver metastasis.Meanwhile,it can alleviate the clinical symptoms, postpone the growth speed of tumor and prolong the survival time of patients.14 refs,2 tabs.
