XPS Study on the Valence of Thulium in Its Ternary Iodides

By using XPS method the valence of thulium in ternary iodides CsTmI3,Cs2TmI4,RbTmI3 and KTmI3 has been studied,The identification of the valence of thulium in these compounds was made by comparing the observed chemical shift of Tm4dbonding energy with those of thulium in TmI2 and TmI3.The results obtained indicate that the thulium in its ternary iodides hasa valence of+2.
