<正> In 1939,a mathematician,named Nicolas Bourbaki,came to France.He began to pub-lish a magnum opus:“Elements of Mathematics”,asserting it to be an axiomatic descrip-tion of the entire mathematics.Since 1948 there has been the public N.Bourbaki Seminar ofMathematics,run thrice a year,attended by mathematicians from various branches to givelectures on the important development of contemporary mathematics.This seminar is stillgoing on,which has accumulated nearly one thousand papers on the development of differ-ent orientations of contemporary mathematics.However,today it is well known to all that there has never been a person called NicolasBourbaki at all.In fact,he is only a collective pseudonym used by a group of Frenchyoung mathematicians.After the First World War,mathematics in France declined grad-
