<正> 1 IntroductionThe study of an atom in a strong magnetic field is closely related to somefundamental problems in quantum mechanics and atomic physics,such as the solution ofquantum systems with non-separable Hamiltonians,the nature of continuum states,thesymmetry property and its manifestation in the structure and dynamics,and quantum me-chanical correspondence of classical chaos.In rccent years significant progress has beenmade both in theoretical and experimental studies,among which particularly attractiveis the high rcsoluhon experiment on Li atom.With a resolution of 0.001 cm-1,Kleppner et al. at MIT observed the diamagnetic structure of odd parity Li atom and its
