Magnetic susceptibility and temperature-dependence of susceptibility were measured on silica sand and silica raw material in Fengyang. The results in combination with the microscope observation of quartzite indicated that there are few magnetic minerals in silica sand and that magnetic susceptibility of silica sand is very low. Magnetic susceptibility of silica raw material is relatively high. There are magnetite, hematite, iron oxyhydroxides(e.g, lepidocrocite) and other magnetic minerals in silica raw material. The magnetic susceptibility value of silica sand reflects the content of the iron impurities in silica sand and the effect of removing iron. If magnetic susceptibility of silica sand is lower, it shows the content of iron impurities is low and that the effect of removing iron is good in the production process. If magnetic susceptibility of silica sand is higher, it shows the content of iren impurities is high and that the effect of removing iron is bad in the production process.%通过对凤阳石英砂和石英砂原料的磁化率、磁化率随温度变化曲线的测量及石英岩显微镜下观察,结果表明,石英砂中磁性矿物含量极低,磁化率极低;石英砂原料磁化率高,可能含有磁铁矿、赤铁矿、铁的氢氧化物(如纤铁矿)等磁性矿物.石英砂磁化率值的高低反映了石英砂中含铁杂质的含量,同时也反映生产过程中除铁效果.当石英砂磁化率越低时,说明含铁杂质的含量低,反映生产过程中除铁效果较好;当石英砂磁化率越高时,说明含铁杂质的含量高,反映生产过程中除铁效果较差.
