Photosynthesis leads to the fixation of carbon in leaves and to the accumulation of carbohydrates(e.g.,sucrose,starch).This assimilated carbon must be transported from the leaves (source tissues)to non-photosynthetic organs(sink tissues),such as roots and seeds.
