Effect of multidimensional rehabilitation on the neurotrophy state and inflammatory response - apoptosis mechanism in patients with schizophrenia
Objective: To study the effect of multidimensional rehabilitation on the neurotrophy state and inflammatory response-apoptosis mechanism in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: Patients with schizophrenia who were treated in West China Hospital, Sichuan University between February 2015 and April 2016 were selected and randomly divided into two groups, the multidimensional group received multidimensional rehabilitation therapy, and the conventional group received conventional rehabilitation therapy. The levels of neurotrophy indexes, inflammatory response indexes and apoptosis molecules in serum as well as the expression of apoptosis molecules in peripheral blood were measured before treatment and 6 months after treatment. Results: 6 months after rehabilitation, serum NGF, BDNF, IGF-1 and IGF-2 levels of both groups of patients were higher than those before rehabilitation while serum sTNFR1, sTNFR2, TNF-α, IL-1β, FasL, Fas and Caspase-3 levels as well as peripheral blood FasL, Fas and Caspase-3 expression were lower than those before rehabilitation, and serum NGF, BDNF, IGF-1 and IGF-2 levels of multidimensional group were higher than those of conventional group while serum sTNFR1, sTNFR2, TNF-α, IL-1β, FasL, Fas and Caspase-3 levels as well as peripheral blood FasL, Fas and Caspase-3 expression were lower than those of conventional group. Conclusion: Multidimensional rehabilitation for schizophrenia can improve the neurotrophy state, and inhibit the inflammatory response and apoptosis of nerve cells.
