Disperse yellow 119 is reduced by Thiourea S, S-Dioxide to synthesize the pyridone type benzotriazole UV-absorber UV-1, which the chemical structure is confirmed by UV-vis, FTIR, 1H-NMR and mass spectrometry. It is observed that Amax of UV-1 in ethanol is 329 nm and its molar extinction coefficient is high. The uptake rate of UV-1 on polyester is stable, so it is suitable for application onto polyester.
