Perimenopausal transition

@@ There has been quite a lot of discussions centered on postmenopau sal hormone replacement therapy(HRT), but far less on the perimenopausal transit ion. Research has been done on the aging ovary and showed alterations in the pri mary unit, the follicle; and granulosa cell is the most important factor respons ible for this follicle change. The aging ovary contains fewer follicles and fewer granulosa cells produced less amount of steroids and many other important factors to the survival of the ovum causing increased rate of granulosa cell apo ptosis in each follicle. Many of these changes may start before the menopause.
