Culture of Traditional Folk Houses’ Door Ornament from the Perspective of Cultural Geography

Door is an important ingredient of Chinese traditional folk houses. It not only embodies the form, color, decoration and other material forms, but reflects the folklore, beliefs, geomancy and other cultural concepts. From the perspective of cultural geography, the culture of traditional folk houses’ door ornament was studied by using the theory of cultural landscape. Based on the field investigation of remaining folk houses in central part of Shanxi, the Huizhou area and southwestern of China, this paper explores the geographical features of traditional folk houses’ door ornament and analyzes the cultural landscape with dynamic characteristics of the door ornament. It is hoped that this paper will perfect the study of traditional residential culture.
